Where young players soar

Summer Hockey Term 2025

There is normally a big gap between the end of one hockey season, and the beginning of the next. At Hawks HC we run a "summer term" to help hockey players stay connected with the sport, while having fun and practicing skills.

In 2025 we will run our summer term from Tuesday 22nd of April until Sunday 29th of July, 9 weeks of hockey to bridge the gap until the new season begins in September.

We have designed a summer term to give plenty of opportunity to those who want "full on" hockey all summer, those who just want to keep their eye in, and those who would like a little hockey while they focus on other sports during the summer months.

This is how it works:

General Concept

We appreciate and encourage multi-sport activity throughout the year, and out of season, our concept is to provide opportunity to play hockey exclusively, or complementary to other summer sports.

By creating a "pay as you play" concept for our summer term, we hope to make it easy for hockey to be part of the summer sports mix for young people.

Our split of training on core skills and dedicated match play, allows players to choose a mix of learning, fun and competitiveness over the term.

Specifically to each age group, the 2025 summer hockey term offers a range of opportunity:

School Yrs 4-7

All sessions are mixed-gender

Skills training

Two 1-hour training sessions on midweek evenings, choose either, neither or both.

These sessions will practice core skills used in the "In" and "Out" of possession phases of the game.

Match play

Two 1-hour match play options on Sunday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

An inter-club (plus guests) 7-a-side match play session. Teams will be evened out based on who signs up, or mixed ability/gender depending on what's happening.

Coaches will be on hand to give practical game-play related advice during games.

School Yrs 1-3 and hockey newcomers

All sessions are mixed-gender

For our youngest players and those completetly new to the sport, a 1-hour fun session on Sunday morning to learn, develop and improve core skills and game awareness.

These sessions will include some basic skills coaching and fun practice games to compliment what we learn.

How to get involved - Step by Step

Step 1: Sign up to take part

If you are a Hawks HC member, we will ask they you signup to take part in any summer term activity, and pay a small fee of £22.50, equivalent to £2.50 per week.

This will entitle you to book and take part in any of the session options, and help us to make some commitment to pitch space and coaching.

Step 2: Pick which sessions you'll attend

To give maximum flexibility, those signed up for the summer term can choose as much, or as little hockey as they like, by picking which sessions they would like to attend.

Confirming attendance to each session will be via MyClubHouse, simply check your diary, find the sessions you can attend and signup.

Step 3: Pay for the session

For the summer term, you only pay for the session you signup to, rather than paying for a whole term. Each session costs £6 and you can have as many or few as you can manage.

An outline of the planned sessions are below and will be published in MyClubHouse.

Step 4: Turnup, learn, practice, compete

Each week provides opportunity for coached practice sessions based on core skills of hockey and options to come and play matches.

There are 3 sessions available to all age groups (older than Under 8), you might do 3 a week, you might do 1 a week, or you might just play a couple of games over the whole summer for a run around.
