Leadership Team and Club Contacts

Hawks Hockey Club put players first and to support them, we have assembled a strong leadership team to deliver our excellent, fun, inclusive hockey experiences and run all the exciting spreadsheets needed to make it happen.

Coaching is what our members join for, and Calum Giles & Willie Marshall are in charge of this. With combined hockey playing experience from three Olympics, three Commonwealth Games a World cup, a champions trophy and many UK & European club championships PLUS more than 40 years coaching experience at schools, clubs, regional and national level, Hawks Hockey Club coaching is in great hands.

Read our team’s bios below and check back because we keep adding new coaches and committee members to allow us to achieve our vision.

Director of Hockey - Calum Giles

Calum Giles is our Director of Hockey. He is responsible for everything “on-pitch” at Hawks Hockey Club.

Calum has had an illustrious hockey career. Regarded as one of the world’s best drag flickers, this skill saw him hold the England and Great Britian highest goalscorer record for over 14 years.

As well as playing for GB at two Olympics, Calum has played hockey at some of the most recognised clubs in England, the Netherlands, South Africa and Australia.

Calum’s coaching journey started in 1992, coaching club sides to promotion at the highest level of national hockey. Calum’s vast experience and knowledge accrued over a 30 year career have helped him to success at a number of schools and clubs in both in England and overseas.

Calum is passionate about coaching and in particular making hockey development fun but succesful for young players.

Without the limitations of an established club, Calum is looking forward to making Hawks HC a trailblazer in Junior Club Hockey in the country.

Coaching Director - Willie Marshall

William Marshall (Willie) is one of Scotland’s finest ever hockey players. 177 caps including three Commonwealth Games, Willie was an international player for 13 years before retiring to focus on his professional career in 2019.

Willie played most of his elite club hockey at the most successful hockey clubs in England, Surbiton. As well as being a team stallwart in their many Premiership victories, Willie has a passion for indoor hockey and won the Super6’s with Surbiton in his time at the club.

A teacher, acting as Director of Hockey at St John’s Leatherhead school, Willie puts his experience in hockey and incredible personality to use as a fantastic coach to young players. His U14 girls team at school one the school’s regional championship this year, testimony to Willie’s coaching skills.

At Hawks, Willie is responsible for our coaching program.

Community Director - Christo Eliott-Lockhart

Christo is one of our Trustees and is assuming the role of Community Director at Hawks Hockey Club.

Christo is passionate about sport and coaching. With his daughters showing a passion for hockey, Christo gave up on his personal coaching experience in Rugby to focus on a proper sport and has helped coach their teams for the last 8 years.

When launching Hawks Hockey Club, Christo was keen to help ensure we build a club which is inclusive and well regarded in the community. He brings his strong ethics and positive attitude to our team, which is super important to how Hawks Hockey Club wants to be percevied in the hockey family.

Competition Director - Ed Thompson

Ed is one of our trustees and taking the role of Competition Director at Hawks Hockey Club. He is responsible for ensuring all members get access to appropriate competitive hockey.

Ed’s preferred sport was football, played at a high level, experiencing competition against national league teams in several FA Cup and FA Vase tournaments. Ed hung up his boots and returned back to hockey after a 20-year gap, which coincided with his daughters, showing an interest in playing a few years ago.

With a passion for seeing development in young players and an exceptional understanding of how competition and coaching help a players journey in sport, Hawks are lucky to have Ed as part of the leadership team shaping how we deliver excellent, fun and inclusive competition for our players.

Chairperson - Terry Pullin

Terry is great with spreadsheets and doesn’t mind bringing a little humor to communications. He is assuming the role of chairperson at Hawks HC, responsible for helping the rest of the team with their objectives.

Having played hockey as a junior, Terry started coaching in 2014 when his daughter started to play. From this, he has often been seen at the side of the pitch helping teams (as a coach, not randomly) have fun and be successful on the pitch.

Terry is passionate about Hawks Hockey Club and the impact it can have on its young players, their parents and the wider hockey community.

Coaching Team

In addition to the leadership team, Hawks HC has professional & volunteer coaches, all of whom (under the guidance of Calum & Willie) are enthusiastic, passionate and qualified to help our players and teams succeed.

Pastoral Care

As a hockey club focused on junior players, Hawks Hockey Club is going beyond safeguarding.

Getting bumps and ensuring physical safety is just one side of the impact sports clubs can have on young players.

Hawks Hockey Club recognises playing sport can have a significant effect on the mental wellbeing of young players. Our pastoral care team are striving to constantly be concious of this, ensure we support young people and evolve every thing we do to create positive experiences.
