Where young players soar

Summer Term at Hawks

With the main season finished at Easter, and the next due to start in September, our summer term bridges the gap between seasons.

Our summer term is flexible with all sessions “Pay as you Play” to accommodate those who want full on hockey and those who need to mix with the other summer sports & activities.

Young hockey players can choose sessions on Tuesday and/or Thursday evening and on Sunday over a 9 week period from the 22nd of April until the 29th of June 2025. Come to every session, come ever week, or just dip in to a few sessions here and there.

All sessions are mixed gender and take place at Worth School.

Players in school years 1-3 have a fun skills & games session on Sunday morning.

Players in school years 4-7 have skills practice sessions on Tuesday and/or Thursday evening, with the option of an extra session training session on Sunday morning…… This age group also have inter-club matches on Sunday to choose from, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Players in school year 7-11 can play 11-a-side matches on Tuesday and/or Thursday evening…… then come for skills training on Sunday morning. For players in school years 10 & 11, we have options to play in some mix-adult summer league hockey across the area.

Guests and newcomers are very welcome, our sessions are designed to introduce young players to the sport or to give keen players some extra coaching over the summer.

All activity at Hawks is professionally coached, child focused and values having fun while playing to get the best out of young players.

Performance players – County & Talent Academy level

Our Hawks summer term will include great coaching, practice activities and game play.

If you are looking for a high-performance summer academy, perhaps because you intend to trial for County or Talent Academy, we recommend you take part in Calum Giles’ Stickwise Summer Academy.

The Stickwise summer academy will be a selective process for more experienced, high potential players currently in school years 7-12. These sessions will be demanding, high-performance and designed to develop core skills in to high level actions.

The Stickwise Summer Academy is a 10 week program starting on the 23rd of April, then every Wednesday evening until the 2nd of July. For more information, click on the Stickwise button below

Frequently asked questions

Can Year 7’s attend the earlier and later sessions? – Yes they can, this is a transition year for the children in Year 7 at school as they will move to full-pitch hockey next season. For the summer, they can choose to do either or both, on a session by session basis

Do we have to attend all sessions? – Nope, you can pick and choose whichever work for you, and only pay for the ones you attend.

Why are the Sunday times weird? – We’ve tried to think of the timings as best fitting in with other summer sports on Sunday. For example you might have a cricket match or athletics meet in the morning, but fancy a game of hockey in the afternoon. We appreciate this might not then run concurrently for siblings, but it seemed a logical idea.

Who will be coaching the skills sessions? – For the summer term Calum is going to concentrate on his Stickwise academy and not coach Hawks summer term….. BUT, we have found an amazing alternative coach for the midweek sessions, an announcement to members will be published soon…… (don’t worry, Cal will be back for next season and if relevant, you should do his Stickwise academy too).

How is it working for goalies? – Goalies should come to either the Tuesday or Thursday earlier sessions. At these sessions we will section off one quarter of the pitch and run a goalie specific practice. This may vary depending on how many we have. Goalie are also encouraged to take part in the match sessions, but will not be charged (just in case they get a good defence).
